Martin Solon and Ann Corcoran

Elizabeth's parents were Martin Merril Solon, Sr. and Ann Corcoran. Martin was born around 1805 in Wexford, County Mayo, Ireland. He died November 30, 1892 in Oelwein, Iowa at the age of 87. Ann was born around 1821 in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland and later lived in Killala, County Mayo. She died January 14, 1890 in Mason City, Iowa at the age of 68.

Martin and Anna are buried at St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa along with their son, Anthony and his wife.

They had at least 7 children:

• Anthony William Solon was born December 1848 in Pennsylvania and died in 1933. He married Catherine Agnes Farrall about 1878. She was born June 1855 in Nova Scotia and died in 1946.
• Margaret Solon was born March 1851 in Pennsylvania. She married Patrick J. McDevitt about 1875. He was born July 1849 in Ireland. They had at least six children:
       Mayme who died at age 20 in Oelwein, Iowa; Margaret, Martin, John, Charles, and Frank.
• Martin Merril Solon, Jr. was born October 17, 1855 in Pennsylvania and died in 1931 in Iowa. He married Anna about 1885. She was born September 1856 in Wisconsin and died in 1924. They are buried at Old Catholic Cemetery, Oelwein, Fayette Co., IA.
• Mary Solon was born about 1860 in Iowa and married Mr. Crowley. She was living in Mt. Carmel, Illinois in the mid-1950's and had at least one daughter.
• Annie Solon was born about 1864, married, and lived in Virginia and Massachussetts.
• Patrick F. (Patsy) Solon born about 1868, believed to have never married and was living in Butte, Montana in 1931.
• Elizabeth Alice Solon was born January 15, 1870 in Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa. She married Edward Eugene Welch on January 3, 1888 at St.Joseph Church in Mason City, Iowa. They had 10 children. She died on April 12, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa.
