SETH WILLIAM ST.JOHN, son of HIRAM ABETH ST.JOHN and PREADIE ALVIRA BAKER, was born October 11, 1900 in Faucett, Buchanan County, MO, and died December 11, 1978 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa. He married MELISSA SARAH MAHAN November 8, 1919 in Savanah, Andrew, MO, daughter of ALBERT MAHAN and ELIZABETH DOUGLAS. She was born March 18, 1903 in St.Joseph, Buchanan, MO, and died April 9, 1975 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa. Melissa was adopted by her cousin and husband, Grace and John Porter, after the death of her parents.

Seth's brother, Guy, recalled that Seth graduated from grade school in Valley Falls, Kansas and attended Sunday School. He hunted rabbits and ducks on the river and played boys games. He once threw a ball that broke Guy's nose.

Melissa was active in church and sang in the choir. She had a wardrobe she used to hang her choir robes and the grandkids used as a hiding spot when playing hide and seek. She was a wonderful cook and always made visits to their home special.
